How to export an email file
Open the message → ⋮ (More, top-right of the message) → “Download message”. Gmail saves a .eml file.
Open the message → ⋯ (More actions) → “Download”. It saves a .eml file.
Drag the message from the list onto a folder on your desktop to save it, or File → Save As. That saves a .msg file — it opens here directly, no conversion needed.
Select the message → File → Save As → set Format to “Raw Message Source”. Save with a .eml extension.
Right-click the message → “Save As…” → choose a location. Thunderbird saves .eml directly.
Most clients have a “Save as”, “Export”, or “Download original” action that produces a .eml (single message) or mbox (a mailbox). Both open here.
